CRITICAL AIRWAY MANAGEMENT AND WEANING IN NEONATE WITH LARGE VALLECULA CYST – ANAESTHETIST PERSPECTIVE.

  • Dr Gobinath Jayaraman*

Abstract

Congenital laryngeal cyst is identified as rare common cause of stridor in infants. A small cyst remains asymptomatic ,whereas large cyst can block laryngeal inlet and can lead to airway obstruction. In pediatric population, it is very important to make prompt diagnosis and immediate intervention to avoid respiratory distress that leads to infant morbidity and mortality. In this case report , we describe a 30 day old neonate with saccular vallecular cyst with expected difficulty in airway management and weaning from ventilator as an anesthetic perspective. In addition, we want to highlight the steps that will be helpful for the assessing readiness of neonate weaning and safe extubation from mechanical ventilation.
